Good morning on this HOT and sunny May Saturday. Is it hot enough for you? Nope, I am not going to moan about the searing heat of the Southerly winds that have dried out my plants. Who needs to go to the Gym when you are humping 5-6 litre bottles of water around the garden trying to rehydrate the plants, especially the droopy hydrangeas? Of all the weather, I hate the Southerly winds the most because there is no escape.
This week for Six on Saturday, I continue my theme of garden colour. I doubt the Gazanias, which have self-seeded in the gravel (brita), will survive much longer and will dry into crispy bird’s nests within the next week unless there is zillions of gallons of rain to rehydrate. While I’m not concerned about their demise, I will miss their random display of colour dotted around the garden.
CACTUS

Nasturtiums

CANNA

GAZINIAS

DIPLANDENIA

That’s it for my Six on Saturday for this week, fellow gardeners and thanks to our host Jim for hosting the gardening MEME

PS… Mr. Piglet pruned the orange tree, and there are signs of life

Your garden looks great despite the weather. I recognise lots of plants that grow well here in South Australia so we must have a similar climate. Love those nasturtiums and pretty cactus! 🌼

Thanks, Sarah. I think maybe we do share a similar climate as some areas of Australia – just pleased we don’t share your huge spiders and other creepie crawlies! :)

Thanks, Cath. Apart from the hydrangea the flowers are thriving (much to my suprise) in this bout of hot weather. I don’t think rain is on the horizon anytime soon.

Beautiful! Lovely colors. I hope the heat has moderated. Here it is freezing for this time of year! Low fifties. It will warm up soon though, so just putting on an extra sweater. I guess we will always have weather!

Thank you ephesians413. The weather has continued into the thirties while we’ve been away and I returned home today to thankfully no casualities as far as I can see. Goodness the low fifties in cold! I hope it warms up for you soon.

Winds of any type–whether brutal cold, or wet, or hot. They just complicate the day. We had a nearly calm day today, with partly cloudy skies and high temps around 75F/24C–perfect in my book. Those Cactus flowers are really fun!

Hi Beth, yes, 24C and a still day is also my ideal. Yep, the cactus is fun when it flowers. Haha… just a shame it is bare and prickly for the rest of the year.

The flowers are pretty! I understand that the wind must be terrible for the garden. I hope you have great air-condition inside, I am sure you do.

wine is good, Tracey. Nothing beats a good glass of wine when relaxing at the end of a day in the garden. (unless you are a beer drinker) :)

Your garden is looking great despite the horrible winds. I share the same feeling, nothing worse than dealing with a harsh wine, cold or hot. It feels personal!

A lovely selection and you’ve reminded me that I need to sow some nasturtiums.

Hi Trowel, do you eat the seeds, flowers and elaves in saldads? If not they are delicious!

I think that’s why we’re going to growing them this year – for salad leaves/flowers. I’ve not tried eating the seeds though. We’ll have to given them a go.

Beautiful blooms! I have to admit to having a sweet spot for nasturtiums in all their simple, sprawling beauty so it was nice to see them in your garden :-) I hope the winds chill out for you! Stay hydrated!!!

Hi, we must be having weather and warmth similar to what you usually have, and it’s lovely here… So when I look at your nasturtiums and cannas in bloom, I’m not far from having the same thing in my garden!
Well done to your husband for pruning the orange tree. The result will be flowers next winter and spring 🤞

Hi Jim, I don’t mind the warm weather but what I struggle with is the strong, hot southerly winds. They are so destructive!
