Wildlife in Portugal – Wild Boar (Javali)

I thought Javali were nocturnal. Apparently not. These cute little piggies were out for a Sunday stroll in the sunshine. I think we were more nervous of them than they were of us.

  1. Impressive! They usually don’t get that close to population. Where was that exactly? They look like very well fed and happy javalis, hope no one got them for dinner 😦

  2. Well I’ll be – not only does Portugal have similar flora to the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas, but the fauna is similar as well. The wild pigs here are called Javalinas and look almost identical to yours.

    1. Anna, as you can probably tell by my name I also LOVE Pigs. I wondered if one of the pigs was having babies.

You were so lucky to have pigs. I have pig envy. WEre they the Vietnamese Pot Belly pigs?

In all our time here I’ve never seen them so close to us.
