This week, the weather in our corner of the Western Algarve has been mixed. There has been sea mist and temperatures varying from between 20 to 34C, but there has been no rain. It’s only a quick six this week.
Breakfast Patio
Trying to revamp the back northeast-facing patio to catch the morning sun in winter and summer. We are using pots to add colour and interest. This is still work in progress.

Growing Hibiscus in Pots
I love hibiscus. They are SO easy to grow in pots. We have several dotted around the garden in various different colours..

Epiphyllum Oxypetalum or Queen of the Night
The Epiphyllum Oxypetalum, or Queen of the Night, only flowers for one night. We nearly missed this.

Cannas Growing in a Pot
Due to the melaleuca hedge roots, we were unable to plant these directly in the soil, so we planted them in a large pot. They are happy, BUT they will need to be split when they die down in the winter.

Dipladenia
Dipladenias are another excellent plant to grow in pots.

Pelargonium
Fingers crossed, they keep flowering until the end of the year!

That’s it for this week, my fellow gardeners. For more Six on Saturday Bloggers, please check out our host, Jim.

Wow! Your flowers all look amazing and are mostly things I’ve never heard of. Love your patio area.

Thanks, Bernie. This is one of the reason I like Six on Saturday. So many gardens from around the world which add variety to our weekly offering.

Nice choice of potted plants. Here I would add the bougainvillea which can’t stay the winter outside. I also have the ‘Queen of the Night’ but no flowers yet. I will have to be attentive to see this beautiful flowering!

Hi Fred, re the bougainvillea do you overwinter in the house or greenhouse? How big is it? I’m thinking our daughter lives in France and her hubby loves them.

My bougainvillea is the variety ‘Vera Deep Purple’. A short variety for pots.
It will stay in the greenhouse of course (-3° minimum) but a friend of Brittany told me about the variety ‘Violet de Meze’ : especially hardy to -8° or -10°. Why not for your daughter ?

Your potted flowers looks so well cared for! Very beautiful arrangements. I like what you did with the rocks in some of the pots.

thanks, Maria. The painted pebbles and rocks at the top of the pots are to deter the birds from pecking at the soil. They love searching for worms, depositing the earth on the patio
