Weekly Smile – Mousing Miles

Apparently, we scroll miles every year on our mouse and perform millions of clicks.

Since my beloved ergonomic HP mouse died a few weeks ago, I have been limping along, moaning and groaning. Would you buy ill-fitting shoes?

I trawled around the shops with my dead mouse, searching for a replacement, but it felt like a conspiracy. They all sold the same selection of mice.

The salesman in the shop informed me, “all mice now come with buttons”.

I think he has a Pinocchio nose! “I don’t want buttons.”

He shrugged and walked away. Cursing, I chose this one.

The Mitsai mouse I bought out of desperation not only made my mouse finger, forearm, and shoulders ache but also the two annoying buttons where I rested my thumb were a nuisance. The buttons, when accidentally touched, cause the web page to jump forward or back. Nope… I didn’t need or want that feature.

I did not want to contort my fingers and thumb into a pretzel to avoid the buttons.

I’m easily pleased, so it will not come as a surprise when I say I (aka my fingers) performed a happy dance when I discovered (at the suggestion of a close friend) I should try and order my favourite HP mouse online. I say favourite because it is an ergonomic mouse and a perfect fit for my arthritic hand.

A few days later, it arrived.

Who knew a mouse would bring such joy! (probably only someone who suffers from arthritic hands or carpal tunnel )

That’s my smile of the week … what is yours?

  1. The mouse is the least of my issues! The whole desk, keyboard, and mouse are not set up for me at all, but it seems I spend 30 mins there a day, and he spends 7 hours it’s the way it is. I

      1. I find it frustrating but just know that after 20 or so mins I need to stand up and do something else. It’s the height difference between 5’1″ and 6′!

  2. Logitech makes great mouses that don’t have all those stupid extra buttons. I keep a spare just in case. I’ve been using them for many years — and I hate those buttons too. Search Amazon. They have a LOT of them in various sizes, designs and configurations. But you know, they really last forever. I only replace them when the feet wear off and they won’t glide anymore. This one here I’ve had for about three years and the previous one, which was essentially identical, I kept for five years.

    1. I have a Logitec keyboard and it is excellent. Not tried a logitec mouse. Next time I’m in a store that sells them I will check them for comfort. IT is always good to have an alternive supplier.

  3. Never heard of an ergonomic mouse, but it makes sense for those with hand issues. Glad you found what you wanted. My smile of the week? The book I am currently reading: “The Curse of Pietro Houdini.” Wonderful story of intrigue and escape, filled with both tragedy and humor.

  4. My mouse also recently died, but I just took out a 15 year old one from a drawer of such things. Actually, if I needed a special one, I would have gone on line before a store – most do only carry the same item that I don’t want. Glad you found what you need.
