Dry January and I Don’t Mean the Weather

Dry January: A Month Without Alcohol!

This year I only made two New Year’s resolutions:

  • Abstain from alcohol for the month of January.
  • Lose 15kg in weight by June 2024

On the Wagon

Dry January was tough. Very tough because we enjoy a glass of wine or three with our meal, enjoy a gin and tonic or two and, of course, cocktails! I love cocktails. It’s not just the drink; it’s the location and being in the moment of sharing with friends. So yes, social drinking. Watching friends polish off a bottle of wine while you sip on fizzy water is torture as you try desperately to avert your eyes.

I tried an alcohol-free gin and tonic– meah! And Mocktails? No, I am not paying as much for an alcohol-free drink as I would for the real deal.

I know many people around the world participate in ‘Dry January’ to promote healthier habits, and yes, I was surprised just how much abstaining from alcohol lowered my blood pressure, so yes, I will be more mindful in future. Only another 24 hours to go!

A shout-out to Mr. Piglet, who joined me during my month of abstinence. Thank you for the support!

Have you ever tried a Dry January? Did you succeed or give up before the end?

Yup . . . some weight to lose, perchance a few kilos less > am totally with you and the best . . .

    1. A meal without wine is like a hamburger without tomato ketchup. 🙂

I am not sure if giving up alcohol helped with the weight loss. We will see if I continue to lose throught February.

      I had strawberry flavour G & T … hmmmm.
