This is an update on a poem I wrote several years ago to commemorate Remembrance Sunday which is held every year on the second Sunday of November
The Poppy Remembers
Two minutes’ silence
echoes private grief,
while a nation mourns its heroes,
sent to die in pointless wars.
Haunting bugles lament your loss,
while the ‘Big Guns’ salute your courage.
The nation still remembers
the red poppies of Flanders Fields,
seeds from your blood, reborn.
Together we wear with pride
our poppy, a symbol of respect,
finding solace in our shared grief.
Two minutes’ silence
bears witness to your sacrifice.
Lest we forget.

Quote
The poppy and Remembrance are unifiers of people and communities across the UK and the Commonwealth. They support and recognise the contributions of the Armed Forces from these nations in times of both conflict and peace.

. . . at the going down of the sun and in the morning we shall remember them . . . amen . . .
