If we were having coffee, I’d tell you we’ve had another busy week in the garden, pruning, digging, and repotting, before the threatened storms arrived on Friday. Of course they didn’t and they are now promised for Sunday and most of next week.We will see. I won’t hold my breath. Maybe a rain dance will do the trick.
We desperately need rain.
I have made a list of indoor rainy-day jobs like shortening a pair of curtains I bought three months ago. Sorting the sock drawer. For some reason I must have a hundred odd socks in there. Probably not, but because they are mostly black, it’s like trying to pair the sky. And reorganise my blog. I also need to learn more techie stuff and order Christmas presents with six grandkids choosing presents is quite a feat, especially these days when they have so much.
Nutritionist
My appointment on Thursday went well-ish. I was surprised that despite only losing just under 2kg (about 4lb) she was pleased with my progress, especially when she took my measurements and I’d apparently lost 10cm (4inches) from my midriff. I think I prefer the metric measurements as they sound better. But any downward trend is a positive, right? At this rate, I should achieve my goal in about a year.
I also discovered I am allowed 1700kcal a day and, from what I can ascertain, the focus is on protein and low fat.
That’s possibly too many calories, but I did mention (although I think it was one of those subtle jokes that got lost in translation) I wanted to lose weight slowly so I didn’t resemble a Shar-Pei with all that excess skin as the fat disappeared. Yeah, I’m an optimist. In truth, I need to do more exercise.

Dizziness…sort of
I’ve been suffering for years with crippling intermittent unsteadiness and moments where I am unable to turn my head or step forward. I freeze and cannot move. I’ve never been able to explain it to doctors, and one neurologist came up with a really bizarre explanation which my family doctor convinced me to ignore. And I did.
I convinced myself I was a medical mystery until I hooked up with a fellow blogger https://tanglycottage.wordpress.com I started reading her blog, connected on FB and discovered it was like looking at myself in the mirror. She had exactly the same symptoms! I had a new description: Disequilibrium. I asked ChatGPT.
During my various consultations over the years, I’d been describing the sensation as vertigo. It wasn’t. Nor was it light headedness. I have now made an appointment with a neurologist who specialises in these areas for the end of November. We will see.
Pleaaaase cross your fingers and or send up a prayer he can diagnose the problem and set me on the right path.
Disequilibrium versus vertigo
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Vertigo | A sensation that you or your surroundings are moving or spinning. |
| Disequilibrium | Feeling unsteady or unable to maintain balance. |
| Light-headedness | Feeling faint, woozy or as though you might pass out. |
| Presyncope | The medical term for feeling close to fainting. |
Getting Creative

I feel the urge to start another painting. After spending hours designing it and getting ChatGPT to reduce it to the exact size of the round canvas, which I still need to buy. In the meantime, I am going to design and paint some Christmas and birthday cards. This is a first for me so I hope the recipients appreciate the effort.
I love receiving cards, but I notice they seem to be going out of fashion with the younger generation. Maybe it’s the cost of the postage or even the cards?
What about you – do you love receiving cards?
Another area I need to be more creative is in the kitchen and research more recipes.
What about you… how was your week?
