Food on Friday: Are FAT Jabs the Answer?

For this week’s Food on Friday, I want to discuss managing obesity, successes and weight loss failures, and the latest trend in what I have heard tagged as fat jabs to help you lose weight.

I am obese and have been for years. Despite my best efforts to exercise (I have limited mobility), the excess weight sticks to me like superglue. I don’t eat UP food. Have a reduced portion size. Limit desserts to one now and again. Reduced carbs, and I am now out of options. To burn more calories than I consume, I would only be able to eat lettuce, cucumber and a stick of celery. Okay, a slight hyperbole, but you follow my drift. I’ve tried everything.

Having explored all the natural options and given the fact that being overweight is impacting my health in other areas, I am now exploring Semaglutides such as Ozempic, Wegovy etc., prescription medicines used for weight loss

What is the difference? Some drugs are used to control diabetes while others focus on weight loss: https://www.drugs.com/medical-answers/difference-between-ozempic-wegovy-3565564/

So… at a crossroads, I’m crippled by indecision.

Have you tried the Semaglutide options? (Ozempic, Wegovy, Munjaro etc. )If so, did you have any side effects, and did you lose weight?

  1. A neighbour near me who I don’t know has obviously taken something as she is now a quarter of her size – I thought it was her sister I was seeing on the park with her kids. Quite the transformation.

  2. I’m not familiar with those meds, Carole, except that my sister in law takes ozempic for her type 2 diabetes and she says it not only greatly reduces her appetite between shots, but for the first few days after the shot, she feels nauseous. I don’t know if it affects everyone the same way. 🤷‍♀️

        1. Hi Lana, I have tried the fasting diet and sadly it doesn’t work for me. I have, however, significantly cut down on portion size and have made some slight progress. But the kicker is the ability to exercise to any great degree.

          1. Experts say weight loss is 80% food and 20% exercise so the main thing is to concentrate on meals. High protein meals, less carbs but not no carbs, we need those fruits and veggies in plenty! More like less starchy carbs like potatoes, bread and pasta etc.

      1. My husband takes Ozempic for type 2 diabetes, although it hasn’t really curbed his appetite. They made him very nauseous for a few months, but the worst is the loss of muscle mass. Search for “glucose goddess” on YouTube, she has great tips to balance your blood sugars and reduce weight. She has a book too. My husband’s blood sugars have improved lately, and he finally lost weight, we think due to following her hacks for the last 6 months or so. He had been on ozempic for over a year or so with not much improvement before. His Dr was impressed with the change and he might even reverse diabetes if it carries on that way.
