Food on Friday: Bifes à Portuguesa at Restaurante o Lamberto, Lagos

This week, we were recommended a traditional Portuguese restaurant in Lagos, Restaurante o Lamberto. The restaurant is located well away from the tourist trail. I think we were probably the only English people there. I ordered a Bifes à Portuguesa to see how it was presented and compared to the one served at restaurant Cais da Lota, located by the riverside in Portimao, where the steak was drowning in what tasted like a disgusting, ultra-processed sauce. This meal was delicious! The potato rounds were tasty. The steak was perfectly cooked, and the sauce was so delicious. In fact, SO delicious I could not resist mopping it up with hunks of bread rather than letting it go to waste.

Using my best Portuguese, I thought I’d ordered a dessert—the selection was amazing. I was thankful it never arrived because eight hours later, I still felt full!

I am going to try this recipe. I know from another recipe I looked at the potatoes are shallow-fried in butter and garlic.

Next time we have steak at home, I will be trying to cook my own version of Bifes à Portuguesa
