Learning to Live with a Disability

Learning to live with a disabilty isan't easy.. Find a way to dance in the rain.

This is a tough post because I don’t want it to come across as a whine. However, I hope this sign resonates with those who are frustrated due to reduced mobility and strikes a chord with them, like me.

Anyway, I saw this sign in a local restaurant. It reminded me to stay positive and try not to stew on all the things I’m now unable to do or had planned to do but to find a way to do the things I can rather than shrug and let life pass me by. Yes, it is easy to get all bent out of shape, and woe is me …blah-de-blah. I also remind myself there are people out there who are far worse than me and to make the most of the mobility I have.

But life is not always that simple.

Activities on my bucket list? I’d love to go on a boat trip around the Rio Formosa, dolphin-watching on a rib, etc., but I am not physically able to climb down into a boat or traverse an unstable planklike access, as happened on a pre-booked trip on an old sailing ship. I watched as my friends and hubby set sail while I sipped wine at a local cafe. Next time, I will be more prepared and find a way.

I will make these trips, but it will take some research.

So, yes. ‘Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass; it’s about learning HOW to dance in the rain, regardless!’

 Where there’s the will, find a way…

Maybe Mr. Piglet will make me this sign as a constant reminder.

  1. It’s true where there’s a will, there’s a way, I’ve no doubt you find a way to accomplish whatever you wish to do. You’re so clever and creative, I figure, you’ll find a way that’ll benefit you and others too. Sending you hugs and positive thoughts.

    1. Yes, I try to be resourceful. Can’t is not a word that features in my vocabulary that often so when I say I ‘can’t do something’ it is only after I’ve explored all (known) possibilites. *laughing* I even found a way to sneak past the bouncers on your blog who would not allow me to leave a comment.

  2. I have come to the conclusion that life was never meant to be easy. Those who say their live is easy and wonderful; have proven to be less interesting to know. Keep pushing those boundaries no matter how long it takes you. Keep smiling 🙂

  3. One thing is for sure – keep on keeping on. God does allow obstacles to challenge us. I hope that you find some creative ways to go for a boat ride or to enjoy some other activity if that truly is not on the possibility list. Best wishes.<3

    1. God certainly works in mysterious ways at times and as one door closes he opens another for us to walk through. 🙂 As for the boat rides I will need to take a look at the boats before I book or at least study photographs of the access on their websites. I hope so 🙂
