Weekend Coffee Share: Finally Finished!

What a week!! I need something more substantial than coffee to celebrate!

Before I take my first sip of Irish coffee, I apologize for not visiting/commenting on many of my favourite blogs this week. I’ve not been slacking, honestly! My collab partner, D.L. Keur, and I have been working through the final draft of The Best Promise before passing the manuscript to the editor.

The Best Promise is the third and final book in The Promise series, which we started in January 2023. *Laughing* I feel mentally and physically exhausted. If I’ve not been reading, writing, rewriting, and looking for potential plotholes, I’ve been busy digging holes in my garden, planting seeds, weeding, building a strawberry planter with Mr. Piglet, and reorganizing my rockery! Between writing and gardening, I need a 30-hour day. Honestly, the word ‘bored‘ is not part of my vocabulary.

Crafting the story and creating/developing the characters with my American co-author over the last fifteen months has been a writing rollercoaster and SO much fun! Two heads are definitely better than one. I now feel sad that we say goodbye to our characters, Sophia (An English city girl) and Aaron (a Western cowboy), with their quirks and quarrels as their relationship develops.

The difference between English and American English often led to hilarious lost-in-translation moments, both in the book and in conversation in general. At times, we have laughed ’til we cried! This collaboration has proved to be tremendous fun, so I’m sad this is the last book in the series! This is not your standard cookie-cutter romance. This is a love story with a difference, and I am heartened that we’ve had so many excellent reviews on Amazon.

I realize some authors use A.I. as their collaborative partner, but working with a real person rather than a robot is much more rewarding.

Now, the hard work begins with the editor.

Another highlight from this week … Phew!! We finally finished the vertical strawberry planter today.

And on the downside, my diet halo slipped. Sunday was Mother’s Day, and we had lunch at our favourite restaurant. Mr. Piglet and I both vowed not to have a dessert. Unfortunately, we could not resist the carrot cake, so we ordered one slice and two spoons. Sigh

  1. One time I was at a travel group through Southeast Asia and there were some British travelers. For fun over breakfast, we’d talk about American English and British English. It was funny but I was surprised at some “innocent” American English words that did mean something completely naughty in British English.

      1. Yes, I did know that the link wasn’t working, but I have never spent any time to try and figure out how to fix it! So, thanks for the reminder. Bernie

    1. Yes, the lost in translation moments can be hilarious at times, especially when words that sound similar have comletely different meanings and you use mismatch them. Preigisoso and Perigoso LoL
BTW I found you in my SPAM box.
I bet a lot of the comments I make on blogs that mysteriously disappear into the ether end up there as well.

  2. Congratulations! That’s exciting. I find carrot cake hard to resist too… and I’m just awful at justifying it since it has carrots in it; it’s practically a salad, right?

    1. thanks, Jenninfer. It’s a wonderful feeling after so much heard work to finally finish the series. As for the carrot cake, I am tempted to dig out my recipe and when I fell better (went down with flu on Friday) make one.

  3. Yay! You made it! A collaboration is the last thing I would have thought about in writing terms, but it sounds like you’ve made a great success of it. Well done to the pair of you.

  4. Whoever said boredom was in the retirement vocabulary is very much mistaken. Writing and gardening a perfect combination. Congratulations on finishing your book series. Very impressive.

      1. I am at that stage with my manuscript as well. It’s the last book in my urban fantasy series. I had a manuscript eval initially and it went well, some great suggestions and uplifting comments. Now it’s getting a content edit. Fun stuff.
