With the escalating cost of fruit and vegetables one month ago I decided to experiment and grow Courgettes (Zucchini), tomatoes and cucumbers throughout the winter, or at least until Autumn turns to winter in November. Who knows, maybe the weather will be kind and they will continue to grow into January and February – we will see.

Autumn Tomato Plants – Cacho

I bought these as seed plugs one month ago. To give them a head start I repotted in good quality compots. It’s amazing how much they’ve grown in just one month!

Autumn Tomatoes – Roma Mini Plum

I can’t believe how quickly they germinated. I will replant in their permanent home once they are a little more established.
Autumn Cucumbers
Remember these little plugs purchased just a month ago?

They’ve grown like triffids!

and I already have my first cucumber!

Unfortunately the plants I attempted to grow from seed failed to germinate.
Autumn Courgettes
Samll plant plugs once again morphed into huge plants .with plenty of flowers. Unfortunately they are all male. Females of the species seem to be shy. Still waiting for one to appear so I can hand pollinate.

That’s it for now. I continue to talk to all my plants every day and do battle with the bugs who are trying to eat them.
Sounds like a great experiment! You have the good temperatures for it so why not? Wish It could join in but cucumbers din’t like the snow! 😉
