#WeekendCoffeeShare – Food Glorious Food!

If we were having coffee this weekend, I’d have to decline cake and cookies and watch while you enjoyed one of these delicious offerings.

Tempting desserts at Sugar and Salt, Portimao.

It’s been a hectic week—a very hectic week socialising or, as my American friend calls it – ‘gladding’. I’ve been gladding when I should have had my nose to the grindstone writing. Anyway, I’ve eaten far too many desserts and cakes, and I’m beginning to put on weight. Sadly, I have the willpower of a gnat, and desserts taunt me like Eve tempted Adam with the forbidden fruit.

I need to lose weight, but unless they ‘wire’ my jaws, this little piggie has a better chance of flying to the moon than dropping the pounds I desperately need to lose. But on the positive side, I climbed back on the diet wagon today.

Does anyone else struggle with diets?

Homemade trifle.

Almond cake and apple pie at the Micro Bistor in Boderiea. Hmmm … my friend ordered the apple pie. Honest.

I couldn’t decide on a Birthday present, so I bought a pretty pink fuchsia and decorated a pot to match the flowers.

Do you have a sweet tooth?

A Creative Birthday Present

I decorated the inside to finish it off.

Once painted, I varnished it to make it weatherproof. It’s been a while since I picked up my paints and today I felt inspired to clear my craft table and start a new project.

Book Update

Finally, our collaboration series continues to sell well, inspiring me to finish a romance story set in Portugal that I started many years ago.

My thanks to Natalie our hostess for the Weekend Coffee Share

  1. Yep, I have type 2 diabetes which is fairly well controlled with meds.
Ah – I didn’t recall that you had knee surgery. That would certainly impact your ability to walk.
Thanks for checking out the wedding shots. For the most part. I am well. But feel like I’m aging fast.
And if I had that secret trick to loosing weight, I’d both use it myself and share it. But here I sit with my own sweet tooth to deal with.

  2. Hi Pip,

It’s been a while since we last spoke and I hope all is well.

Congrats on the book success, but about this losing weight thing, I don’t have much to offer. There were three things that helped me lose 60 lbs. over the past 3 years and two were dramatic.

    1. I’m type 2 diabetic and my doc prescribed a new med that he said might help me loose some weight. I didn’t expect much because my history in doing so was not good, but it worked amazing for several months. There are several of these meds now and some are used just for the help in reducing a person’s appetite. For me it was remarkable.
    2. Covid – it never put my life at risk, but it killed my appetite for about a month with dramatic weight loss that I’ve managed to keep off. You really don’t want to try this method of losing weight…
    3. Walking 10,000 steps each day. After Covid and the weight loss I was very weak but also very much lighter so I determined to walk a lot to recover my stamina and it took several months to work up to 10K but I made it and continue. It takes me about an hour & 40 minutes each day to walk this much, but it makes a huge difference so I keep at it.

Earlier this month I officiated at our son’s wedding and had to buy a new suit to wear because my old one now fits like a tent. You can see the new and improved me at my coffee share where I share some of the photos.

    1. Hi Gary, interesting your dod prescribed medication. Was that for the type 2 diabetis or as well as? If so what was it?

I used to walk, hike, Zumba and do Pilates etc but since my knee operation I have limted mobility. Over the last three years I have built up steps to about 4,000 a day but that is not all in one chunk. I wish. 🙂 Exercise is a great way to motivate the metabolism. I did pop over to check out the photographs on your blog and you look well.

I have a lnadmark birthday in December so maybe I should setmyself a weightloss goal for that. I need something to KILL my sweet tooth 🙂

  3. Congrats on your book success! Your pink plant and painted pot look great. I love desserts and try to only have them as occasional treats. Thank you for your weekend coffee share.
