If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that we had a brilliant few days away celebrating our 51st wedding anniversary, staying at the Real Marina Hotel in Olhão. Before checking into the hotel, we spent the morning relaxing in Tavira by the river where we took the tourist train and discovered a cafe serving traditional English cream tea.

Tavira is really picturesque (I forgot to take pictures), and I want to return to explore further. Last year, when we stayed there to celebrate our 50th anniversary, sadly I got food poisoning, so we had to abandon our celebrations and return home early.
A nice surprise!

Look what was delivered to our room courtesy of the hotel! Of course, I had to break my three-month alcohol abstinence to enjoy it, so it will mean starting again. But hey, life is for living, yes! The weather was also kind and the rain held off until we returned home.
Much to my surprise, although I drank wine with our meals, I didn’t enjoy it! Can’t say the same for the moreish espresso Martini.

Dermatologist – Lucky Escape!
On Wednesday, I went for what I thought would be a routine check-up. Mr P had been nagging me for a while about some discoloured patches on the side of my face that were concerning him. Luckily, I listened and made an appointment.
However, between booking the appointment and actually attending it, a strange spot appeared just above my top lip. I thought it was a pimple. A whitehead. But when I prodded it, I discovered it was a solid lump that was getting bigger.
I can only thank God for the timing of that appointment because, when the dermatologist examined the spot, I could tell from her expression that she was far from happy.
I didn’t catch the name of what she thought it was, but she asked if I had time for her to cut it out there and then.
Of course, I said yes!
Back on the wagon
Yep, diet and alcohol. While we were away, despite not eating any desserts, I put on 1 kg, which is hardly surprising given the fantastic breakfasts at the hotel, lunches and dinners out. Ho hum. I have already lost the kilo and I am back on track.
Healthy Mug Cakes
I’m experimenting as I am bored just eating oats and Greek yoghurt for breakfast.
‘I’ll try a mug cake,’ I thought. ‘Why not? Reels with various recipes are always popping up on my FB feed. Time to try one.
Berry Mug Cake: 2 tbs of oat flour. 1 Egg and a few berries. Mix the ingredients together in a microwaveable cup and heat for about 30-90 seconds. The result
It looked disgusting!!

I ate it. And yes, it tasted as disgusting as it looked.
Have you had success with a mug cake? What recipe did you use? As part of my diet routine, I can only have oat or almond flour, Greek yoghurt or cottage cheese, eggs and flavourings.
My thanks to Natalie the Explorer for hosting the Weekend Coffee Share

Happy anniversary! My fair-skinned husband has the same thing on his forehead. Luckily it’s easily treated. Glad yours is too.

Happy Anniversary! You two deserve all the love and celebration in the world! As for the healthy mug cake – hey, at least you gave it a healthy try, but I think the champagne and cocktails more than made up for it!

I am counting the days/weeks before I can return to the cocktails. :)

I’m glad you had your dermatology appointment at exactly the right time! A good reminder I need to go. The mug cake things I haven’t tried. A poached egg on toast with a little side of berries sounds better. Dietary changes are hard, but if you feel better it’s worth it!

Hi Tracy, thanks for stopping by. I was trying to find your blog but there is no link in your name. Dietary changes are hard, especially for a foodie like me. :)
Unfortunately, I can’t eat eggs unless they are disguised as an ingredient. Poached, Fried, boiled or pancakes are all off the menu for me. Life would be so much easier if I didn’t have the egg intolerance.
And yes, the dermatology appointment was indeed timely!

Glad you got into the dermatologist in a timely manner Carole. I cannot make a mug cake as i don’t have a microwave. It will be traditional cakes for me anyway. I am not a wine fan either (except mulled and ginger wine), so that Martini would have done me too. I prefer sweet alcoholic drinks like sherry and Baileys. Have a lovely weekend!

Hi Lana, yes I was fortunate with the timely dermatology appointment as they are not always easy to get.
The mulled and ginger wine combination sounds interesting. Do you serve it hot?
I love Baileys. It is a drink we always serve at Christmas.

Sorry mulled and separate ginger wine :-) A little rum in a hot chocolate is fab too.
