How Was Your Week? Living in the Moment

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you I had a great week. I keep telling myself to learn to live in the moment and not stress about things that are out of my control. Enjoy the precious moment of here and now. Learning to live in the moment is certainly easier when the rain is not dampening your spirits, the sun’s rays warm your face, and the sky is blue. Yep, the sun has been shining ALL week. And I have managed to maintain my weight loss and NOT given way to temptation and eaten any desserts or biscuits.

Physio. Good news – my physiotherapist managed to release some of the tension in my back and gave me some exercises. The massage worked for a couple of days, but then the pain returned. Bad news. She is on holiday next week.

The perfect sundowner. After physio, we went to Lagos Marina for a cocktail and a meal at Portofino’s.

The weather was perfect. Sunny with no breeze. Sadly, they are spoiling Lagos. Apartment blocks are springing up like weeds, as are hotels. Soon, there won’t be anywhere to park in that area. And then what? The secret is out, and this once beautiful, historic town will be ruined by mass tourism and greedy developers.

A1 Portuguese lessons – this week’s lessons have ramped up by at least two notches, and my brain is officially fried. We are still working through Unit 6, in our students’ A1/A2 exercise book, and it is tough. I am acutely aware that I am the oldest person in the class and probably the dumbest when it comes to language learning. I keep asking questions, which slows down the class, but fortunately, the teacher is patient as she is aware I am struggling. Although I try desperately to keep up, I have the memory of a gnat, and I can’t seem to retain information as I once did. But I refuse to give in. I have started a notebook, where I plan to write ten words a day. Some words I already know, but most are new to me.

Espresso Martini – Mr P surprised me by making me an espresso martini. His first, and it won’t be his last. Delicious! Phew! A perfect way to relax after working in the garden. Our next project is to make

DEBBOBLER – What a BRILLIANT invention! Let me introduce you to the battery-operated jumper debobbler gizmo I’ve just ordered. The new winter jumpers I bought back in December had gone all bobbly and made the jumpers look old and tired before their time. You know what I mean? So many thanks to our daughter for introducing me to this

The jumper, after several passes of the debobbler, looks like new!

Do you have one?

In the NEWS

I’m not looking, or at least trying NOT to, but one headline did catch my attention

Campaigners welcome Meta and YouTube’s defeat in landmark social media addiction trial

I am now trying to limit my time on social media platforms, especially FB, where I can easily lose an hour of my day scrolling. What are about you? Do you find FB addictive… or TikTok, Instagram et al?

That’s my coffeeshare for this week, folks. I know I’m late, but we have been working in the garden. My thanks to our hostess, Natalie the Explorer.

  1. At first, I thought, ā€œWhat in the world is a debobler?ā€ As I read on, I realized it’s what we call a lint shaver. I’ve never used one of these, but have used an actual razor. šŸŖ’
I’m happy to hear that the physio is able to help you. Is she doing myofascial release? I had that once many years ago and it was miraculous.

    1. Hi Terry, a lint razor. Haha… almost a strange as a debobbler. LoL

      Is she doing myofascial release?

TBH I don’t know. So much gets lost in translation. The physio I had this week (my normal physio is on holiday) approached the pain and massage in a different way. I will ask my normal physio next time I see her.

  2. Enjoyed walking through your week with you. Hope your pain goes away. Mine just moves around my body giving each part a chance to share the fun. Facebook gives me an outlet and keeps me in touch with friends now that I can’t drive. I’ve been pretty choosey about what I read and there are really good podcasts both serious and funny now. At almost 89, I’m limited in what I can do physically though I exercise and also water plants in my daughter’s large yard. I was hoping to visit my brother in Portugal in the fall, but not sure that’s going to happen. I’m blessed with a large loving family, so this time of my life has many moments of grace.

This made me smile. IT is an excellent description.

FB is a good way of keeping in contact with friends and family but I can’t seem to find their feed unless I gointo each individually. IT’s prbably in the settings

      89! That’s amazing.

Let’s hope you make it to Portugal to visit your brother. It is a beautiful country.

  3. I used to own a debobbler years ago and it was good (it may have eventually broke) but now I just use Franc’s debobble comb as and when. I recently opened up an Instagram account again, it is the most addictive thing though so am trying to be more aware. I don’t follow anyone or post yet reel after reel comes in. Remember when it was just photographs?! It just became another TikTok (which I never had).

    1. hi Lana, I used to own a debobble comb but this one is battery operated and it reinds me of an electric shaver.

Instagram I have only used a few times before and I don’t really know how it works. I did manage to set up a follow me on Instagram button (with the help of ChatGPT) tonight. I’ve only posted photos so far not reels. I can imagine it would work well for you adding pictures of the places you visit as a reel or photos.

  4. I like your positive attitude, and hope that shoulder pain is not too horrible. I deleted facebook about 2years ago – it just got “weird”, too many fake images. I thought, enough! I do look at instagram probably more than I should, but no tiktok. I go to reddit almost every day. Good job to Mr. Piglet for making the perfect cocktail.

  5. It is so wise to live in the moment. Spring is such a perfect time to do it as well :) I am so happy that you finally can enjoy some great weather, in fact it sounds about perfect.

  6. Well, I never ever ‘scroll’ but absolutely LOVE Instagram – I find it the fastest way to keep in touch with dozens of close friends around the world: photos, news articles, recipes etc going back-and-forth at the rate of knots – often 8-10 sends per five minutes or less! Faster than email. Plus there are so many sites with marvellous cooking, gardening, sociological, political, current affairs etc news! I read something different every 30 seconds and love it :) ! Am sorry you still seem to have language problems – when you go to lunch or dinner with local friends doesn’t the conversation get easier by the day . . . ? Picking up new words in the context of the conversation? As I told you before – in NE Europe we all spoke 3-4 languages before we ever went to school with no problems, so I guess I . . . ???

    1. Hi Eha, I have an Instagram account but have not really used it. Maybe I should and abandon FB which can become quite toxic.

My insta account is https://www.instagram.com/pigletinportugal/ what is yours?

The language problem is due to the fact we live in a multinational communinity and English is the common language. there are also many Inian and nepalese in the restaurants or Brazilians and this is also a tourist area.. I want to make Portuguese friends but it is difficult to meet women of a similar age. That’s why I loved working in the charity shop in the local village.

IT sounds as if I am making excuse but foreigners from all over Europe and beyond have swamped the area. :(

      1. I gave up on FB quite a few years ago – simply too big and took too much time – and one was repeating oneself time and over again and some people responding were, shall we be rude, somewhat ‘odd’! Yes, I am coming across a number of nationalities reading/writing in/from Portugal – so I can see your point. When I get to IG later in the day shall make contact . . . I also do quite a bit of sort’of ‘private’ reposting . . . shall see whether I can contact you there . . .

        1. Hi Eha, I think more and more people are deleting FB/abandoing FB accounts because of so much misinformation, fake posts and clickbait.

I find many people on FB groups to be rude or just post fluff in comments.

I have hopefully set up a follow me on Instagram button to my blog. But at the moment I have no real idea how it works.

          see you there!
