How Was Your Week? Looking Back to Move Forward

It’s been another tough week as I continue to battle with pain and mobility issues. To focus on positives, I decided to remind myself how far I’ve moved forward–albeit at snail’s pace– over the last five years.

I tell myself this setback is only a small pothole, not a giant sinkhole waiting to swallow me, but as the weeks roll on, it just feels like it.. I still go Line Dancing with limitations but have refrained from all other exercises such as Get Fit with Rick, Standing Abs, step exercises and walking. I now wonder if this was a good idea?

Fortunately, my cardiogram, hip and back x-ray appointments were brought forward by two weeks, so I had all three on Wednesday. A bonus. A double bonus Mr. Piglet then took me to Avanti’s at Lagos Marina for a Pornstar Martini cocktail. I needed it!

TOURIST SEASON – OUT TO Lunch (again)

As we approach July, the tourist season is really ramping up. I think many of the tourists who were going to Spain are now coming here. That’s another story.

The restaurants in the square at Ferragdo in the Central Algarve were rammed with tourists. I swear, everywhere we go now is rammed. It used to be the school holidays, but now there is very little in respite for the locals.

Fortunately, our favourite restaurant in the square where we used to dine with our closest friends had plenty of staff on the ball, and the food and service were excellent.

For me, the place still holds too many memories, and as I sipped on a Sangria, I paused to remember our closest friends Jill and Mike. We had the same humour and values. The square was the last time I saw Jill in February 2020, just before COVID. She was in remission after extensive treatment. She looked really well. I told her not to worry…. she was happy and hopeful at my words… we sat on this bench for a while before we parted with the promise to meet up again soon.

Sadly, three months later, the cancer claimed her life, and she passed away. Her memory lives on, A lady who lived and loved life to the full so every time I feel down I remind myself of her passing and the lost years she never got to enjoy.

ENTERTAINING FRIENDS

On Saturday, we invited friends for a ‘Bangers and Burgers’ BBQ and a game of darts. I was useless, but it was great fun, and at least my darts hit the dartboard about 60% of the time. The wine and beer flowed, as did the food, until the early hours of the morning. We are lucky to have so many good friends.

Have you ever played darts?

MISSING ….

I took zillions of photographs of a local pottery shop with my phone as I planned to write a blog post to promote it. I hunted for the photographs and every one had disappeared. Strange. I know they were there because I had been scrolling through. I then searched for pictures I’d taken of my granddaughter in France. It was the day of her birthday. Beautiful photographs. ALL GONE! In fact, most of the photographs I’d taken with my phone’s camera had disappeared.

I checked the recycled bin. Nothing. I checked Google Cloud. nothing.

That will teach me to backup onto a separate device. Lesson learned. I am now trying to figure out how to transfer all the photos and videos from our old iPad to my new Lenovo tablet. That’s this week’s project.

Any ideas, please?

that’s a wrap for this week’s coffee share. Hope to see you next week.

In the meantime, do pop over to Natalie’s blog to hook up with other coffeeshare bloggers.

  3. Coming to you from Weekend Coffee Share. I am sorry to hear of your mobility issues. As someone who suffers from fibromyalgia and polymyalgia rheumatica, I understand the constant fight to regain what has been lost. I’m also sorry about the loss of your friend. I hope you find those lost photos!

  4. Hi Carole, I’m sorry to hear you continue to battle with pain and mobility issues. I’m glad your medical appointments were brought forward and you got them all done in a day. I’m also sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. I also lost a dear friend to cancer a few years ago and think of her often. I hope you’ll be able to retrieve your photos perhaps with your phone provider’s assistance. Wishing you more good food, fun and laughter with family and friends in the week ahead. Thank you for your weekend coffee share.

    1. Thanks, Natalie. I am sorry to hear of the loss of your friend. It good to keep the friends we’ve loved and lost close in our hearts.

I am gradulally learning to live with the pain (I won’t take painkillers) and accept it is what it is.

As for the pics I’ve searched my phone and think I’ve found and option of data retrieval but it is all in portuguese. I will speak to a Portuguese friend and see what she thinks

  5. Hi Carole, sorry to hear you are feeling pain with your mobility issues but great to hear your medical appointments have been brought forward. It is difficult to stay positive when our bodies aren’t feeling up to par. Going out for lunch and being with friends would certainly help though. Have a lovely week. Sue L x

  6. Maybe contacting your phone provider will help. Perhaps they can “go back in time” like you can do on computers and retrieve your photographs. I don’t back up my photographs, I edit them and email them to myself after each trip then save them on my pc, the contents of which I back up regularly onto a memory drive. I hope you have a good week, cherishing the memories of your friend who passed.

I’ve spent the evening trying to save the rest of the pics to a hard drive and then on my laptop. Zero success. SAme with trying to transfer files from my iPad. I really am not a techie.

  8. I’m so sorry to hear that you’re having such a battle with pain and mobility, Carole. Those two are so interconnected, and that makes them among the toughest things to deal with on an ongoing basis. Thank goodness you’ve had some positives in terms of outings and visitors.

    1. Hi Terry, it’s a delicate balance as you know from your recent experience. I am learning and have to accept patience is key and staying focused. I was doing so well but then I overdid the exercise and climbing up and down stairs.

Today I start again. Back to basics and just 5 mins of standing apps
