There has been no rain again this week, and the water butts are nearly empty. We can’t even backwash the pool into the water butts as we usually do, because the pool has mustard algae at the moment and we need to contain it. I really can’t moan as we’ve had months of rain.
For this week’s Six on Saturday, I am focusing on some of my favourite plants
Zantedeschia – Calla Lilies
I repotted it on again and set it up on the watering system. For now, it seems happy. It only enjoys the late afternoon sun.

Queen of the Night – Epiphyllum oxypetalum
I missed the first flower of the year but I noticed we have zillions of buds.

Madagascar Palm
Continues to grow reasonably well, although I suspect I will need to repot again at some point.

Banana Tree
I think it probably also needs repotting at the end of the year. We will see.

Cycas (Sago Palm)
Today, I noticed new growth. Phew! When the cycas produced seed pods last June (I initially thought it was going to flower), someone told me it would die, so I feared the worst.

Canna Lilies Growing in a Pot
You may well ask why Piglet is growing her Canna Lilies in a pot. I tried planting them directly in the ground, and they were unhappy.

as you can see here …

and here

At least the Cannas growing in a large pot do not need to share water with the roots from other plants and the thirsty hedge.
That’s my Six things in the garden for this week folks. Do pop over to Jim’s blog to hook up with other Six on Saturday bloggers
Until next week.

Beautiful photos and plants to highlight! I have some Callas and Cannas, too, that are thriving in the hot summer weather we’re having now. All your plants look happy with the current conditions.

I don’t envy you having to repot those large plants!

Me neither. Theya re quite a challenge, especially the prickly Madagascar palm.

The calla lilies, here in the ground, are always eaten by slugs, and I don’t get much use out of the flowering. I agree, the banana tree needs a bigger pot, and certainly with richer soil to encourage a new growth.
Very pretty Madagascar palm! I love it! (and otherwise, cannas like to be packed into a pot to flower: it’s like Agapanthus, that’s why it works well for you in a pot)

Hi Fred, I wondered if I’d crammed too many Cannas in a pot and was think of repotting. Thanks for the tip. I will hold off on that idea. I tried the banana tree in the ground and it stuggled. I need to get Mr. Piglet to build me a big trough.
