This week has been challenging, especially as it was time to admit I’d failed on some of the health goals I’d set last month as part of the #wellnessremiagined linkup. But maybe ‘fail’ is not the right word; I’d just taken a minor detour before getting back on track.
My goals for March were:
“Gradually ramp up the exercise. Complete the track and/or shore walk. Continue to avoid Ultra Processed Foods. Get back on the 80/20. Weekly recipe. Research gluten intolerance as a starting point to identify which foods cause the bloated Buddha belly.”
Review:
Exercise: I was doing great following Rick’s standing abs exercises until last week when, keen to build on my newly acquired skill of getting up off the floor unaided, I changed focus. My friend and fitness coach suggested exercises to build muscle in my knees. However, instead of approaching them gently, my enthusiasm overruled self-preservation, and I overexercised and paid the price. My knees and lower back ached so much I could hardly walk, and because of the pain (I rarely take painkillers, I felt meh! This lasted nearly all week and is still ongoing. Arrrrgh! March ended on a down note.
I forgot the quote: Take small steps each day.
You might not get there today but you’ll be closer than yesterday. Anon
I never completed the beach or track walk as the weather has been crap. One moment, bright sunshine, and the following, high winds and heavy showers.
Diet: I am sort of back on the 80/20, but it’s more like 20/80, if I’m honest. Weight loss? That wheel fell off the health wagon. UPF—I am still mindful at home, but avoiding when we eat out can be more challenging.
Gluten intolerant? I’m not sure. Bread makes me bloat, and so do raw bananas and cabbage. I still have to check out pasta.
My goals for April: As above, but also work on mindfulness, avoid politics, and focus on what is in my control. Mr Piglet reminded me of the prayer I used to quote him in.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
**
POLITICS: The crazy politics emanating from the USA and other parts of the world are making me anxious.
Last week, I resolved to stop doomscrolling and watching the News for one week. I kept to it and felt more at peace. Back in December 2024, I felt I was about to implode, so I blocked out all Social Media and news for a whole month, and I’m tempted to do so again. But will this cause me more stress?
How do you deal with the current craziness and stay sane?

ANTI-SNORING PLANT—This has got to be an April Fool’s gag, right? But I bought it on the 3rd and I’d only bought it because I had admired it on one of my fellow bloggers’ gardening posts. Honest!

When I showed Mr Piglet my latest plant acquisition, he smiled and then laughed when he read the label:
This unique anti-snoring plant can ensure a good night’s sleep. This plant unlike other plants, produces oxygen during the night. Clear air in the bedroom contributes to deeper sleep and reduces snoring symptoms.
Really?

I assume from the website on the label it is some sort of Bromelia. Do you believe the sales spiel?
BUDDHA PAINTING PROJECT
The Buddha painting project continues. With the textured areas now dry, it was time to pencil in the outline of the Buddha and some Lotus flowers. I have the painting bug again!

Painting and drawing, like gardening, offers a welcome escape from the drama.
How do you escape, or do you face it head-on?
That’s all from me this week, folks.
How was your week? Do tell and we’ll sit down and have a coffee.
What made you smile? Be sad or mad?

Hi Carol we all fall off track at times and it is important to acknowledge that but then move on without being too hard on ourselves. We are human after all. It is also easy to want to go at full speed when we need to take it in small steps and build up with consistency. My husband recently told me my snoring was getting worse so perhaps I need that anti-snore plant LOL 🙂 Thanks for sharing your week with us at #WellnessReimagined and being open and honest about where you are at with your fitness. We are all here supporting you. Sue L x

Hi Sue, I am my worst enemy at times. I know my body does not act well to change yet I still push it at times.
Every home should perhaps have an anti-snoring plant. 🙂

I hear you, I’m the same and have a sore neck today from pushing myself yesterday. Will I ever learn? x

Hi Sue. We should know better but we still push ourselves right to the limit.

Sorry about your knees, I hope they are healing. I tend to go overboard on things, too. Oh well, at least we keep trying! A few years back, I switched to watching a bit of local news – weather, couple stories and off it goes. I’m the better for it. Hope the sun is shining on you this week!

Hi Tracy, the knees are groaning less today 🙂 Yes, we must keep trying! The idea of focusing on local news is a good idea.
We have had a couple of days of sunshine but the rain returns tomorrow.

Anti snoring plant! Love it. May i ask a question – do you find the buddha face attractive or do you create it because of what people have said it means spiritually? I am curious because before I was a Christian I had a buddha head statue in my home. I really did think it was very ugly but kept it (it was a gift) for good luck and prosperity as I was obsessed with all that at the time.

Hi Lana, the Buddha face provides a feeling of calm, well-being and tranquility. The lotus flowers symbolise spiritual and emotional growth

Aaah, that blasted wagon. One step at a time is fabulous – but it’s one thing knowing that and it’s another *knowing* it. So that little pineapple plant can stop snoring? Who would have thunk it?

exactly, Jo. For me the jury is still out on the anti-snoring plant. But it was a good sales pitch LoL

Don’t beat yourself up Carole. I’m sure we will all have little detours along the way, as the year progresses. Being able to see clearly what happened and what caused it is a step forward. As for avoiding the chaos in the media at the moment. I love politics and I have had a special interest in US politics for most of my adult life. At the moment, it’s driving me nuts, so I’m limiting what I watch and read. I’m watching the news but trying to stay away from social media as much as possible. These days I mostly pop in and out to check in with my groups.

Thank, Jennifer. April is already going better than March. I am trying to avoid cooking cakes. Even the healthier ones with oats. Exercise I have completed a few of the 10 min Get Fit with Rick workous. Gentle. but a start.
Politics the world is changing and I await with interest when Trump joins the dots and realises he has played straight into Putin’s hands….

That’s a nice pineapple plant (snoring plant). I didn’t know that about the plant. I have one too that I grow from a stump years ago. I was going to post about it soon.

One step at a time, I believe in you, you seem to be very determined!
I do believe int he sales pitch for the pine apple plant. Some plants do produce a lot of oxygen and that does help reduce snoring (if it is in your bedroom). Snake plant is another good option for the bedroom, for that reason.
Have a great week!

Thanks, Maria. Yes, I am determined otherwise there would only be two wheels on my wagon by now. Thank you for your ongoing support. HAppy gardening 🙂
I did not realise the Snake plant was also good. We call them Mother-in-Laws tongue. 🙂 I have those plants growing in the garden. When I planted it I did not expect it to survive. It has not only survived but sent out runners with more plants

I have done the same thing with over-exercising, so I know just how it feels. Ouch! As for media…I am one of those who has to read, watch and write. Not the solution for everyone, I know, but that’s how it is for me.

Hi Laurie
Sometimes we are our own worst enemy. I must keep the quote in mind:
Take small steps each day.
You might not get there today but you’ll be closer than yesterday. Anon
I admire that. I wish I could but it drives me into a downward spiral. I like Melissa’s idea of only reading the headlines then decide rather than trying to absorb all the data.

I know you don’t need me to tell you this but we all hit bumps in the road. Progress is still progress, even with a few detours ❤
My week was fantastic with my sister and her family in town to visit! And then I got sick (sick sick), so I’m in full on recovery mode
How do I stay sane in the political insanity? I keep my news to a minimum, reading only headlines unless it seems especially important, and I limit social media to 15 minutes. Currently I’m only on Bluesky, so that makes it easy. Also, fresh air and sunshine help. And tea. Lots and lots of tea.

You’re right. When I was writing this review of the last month I tried to keep focused on the major breakthough of getting up from the floor unassisted. I must learn to accept I will always be challenged by food, hence the name Piglet 🙂
Good to know you had a fantastic week with your sister. I hope you never got sick while she was there?
I really like the idea of only reading headlines. Doh, I should have thought of that. 🙂
And yes, fresh and sunshine… tea not so much.

Don’t beat yourself up, Carole. Start slow again and just work on it. Perhaps the weather will turn and you can get outside for one of those walks. Walking is always a great way to get started.

Hi Bernie, yes, I think the weather does affect my mood. Today is calm, brilliant sunshine and cornflower blue skies. Sun is a good medicine. Starting slow did some work in garden but stopped before I began to ache. 🙂 I will resume my abs exercisess later and stop stressing about how much exercise everyone else is doing LoL
