In a Vase on Monday: Symbolic

My offering this week for Cathy’s ‘In a Vase on Monday’ is based on symbolism. The colours, vase, backdrop and even the dead, spoiled flowers on the red base hold meaning. Any ideas?

I picked these flowers on Sunday afternoon in a brief period between showers. I wanted to offer an additional arrangement, but the heavy rain put paid to that idea!

  1. Hi, Carole – Those are stunning pictures. I love art that is rich with symbolism and meaning. Based on the first photograpsh, here are a couple of my personal interpretations

Contrast of Life & Decay – The bright flowers contrast with the fallen petals, reinforcing the idea of time’s passage and the balance between vitality and loss.

Emotional Duality – The mix of warm red, hopeful yellow, and the somber grey and dark background creates a tension between warmth and melancholy, vibrancy and vulnerability.

I would love to know what others think, and especially your own thoughts on this.
I hope that you are feeling better and are fully recovered.

      Hi Donna … close
Yes, life and decay. the bright flowers represent life and the fallen petals those killed in Ukraine

The colours of the vase and flowers represent the flag of Ukraine. The red. A river of blood. The black background death. The holes in the vase are the bullet holes as a consequence of fighting the buildings scarred.

I know it is a bit obscure but I can’t even begin to imagine how the Ukranian’s feel as Trump plays God

  2. That first comment from Terry suggests that you might not have been well, so I do hope you are OK – but I am not going to hazard any guesses about the symbolism.

The freesias are wonderful in their abundance, but the deliberate inclusion of dead blooms is clearly of significance

    1. Hi Cathy. I think my creative bent may have been a bit too creative.
Dead blooms definitely have a significance as does the holes and colour cobination of the blue vase and yellow flowers. We are fortunate to have masses of freeishas at the moment.
