Rain, glorious rain, but not when you are tasked with producing a display for the In a Vase on Monday member organised by Rambling in the Garden. This morning, during a brief respite, I dashed into the garden and grabbed a handful of foliage, some Bermuda buttercups, three dead succulent flowers, and some bottle brush. Thiss was my first attempt.
I wasn’t entirely happy so I braved the rain again. Grabbed some more bottlebrush flowers but to my critical eye the arrangement had no focal point.
The rain has spoiled the few flowers I have. I then spotted one hibiscus flower—job done.
Which arrangement do you prefer?

I like both as well. To me the silvery leaves really pull it all together. Always love bottlebrush!

Very creative! I like both arrangements, and the vessel is perfect for the elements, too. I couldn’t pick a favorite, because part of the fun is experimenting and changing. Lovely.

Hi Beth, thanks for stopping by. You are right, part of the fun is experimenting with colours, shapes etc. The vase also plays an important part in the arrangement and I also try to be creative in that area too.

The small yellow flowers were a lovely contrast with the silver foliage, I think the had the makings of a good vase for another week based on that selection. The Bottle brush flowers are stunning.

I think it looked lovely even without the Hibiscus. 😃 But naturally that beautiful flower helps your pretty bottlebrush and foliage shine. 👍 It is raining here too, but I cheated and used indoor plants! LOL!

Hi Cathy, the one thing I am not short of in my garden is foliage but participating in IVOM I realise I don’t have a lot of choice re flowers. Indoor plants. Good idea. I was tempted to paint a vase of flowers. Do you think this would count?

“The only constant in life is change” .. I think a Greek Philosopher said this long ago. ‘Normal’ is perceived differently by everyone and, as you said, Edward, we really don’t know the young man’s point of reference. I agree also that there really is no standard ‘normal’.

I’m no flower arranger, but I quite like the first arrangement. There’s plenty of stuff around now, isn’t there? White broom might work in an arrangement? I’ll go and look at the others.

hi Jo, I was also quite taken with the colours of the first display but I couln’t find any more Oxalis in my garden and as a cloudburts threatened I gave up. We don’t have white broom there there is something simialr growing wild on the land next door. Good suggestion. Thank you.

I liked the first one a lot but it probably ties with the third for my favorite. Bright yellow Oxalis have popped up in my own garden recently and I briefly considered cutting some myself. I love their cheerful yellow color, if not their weedy behavior 😉

Hi krispen, thank you for your comment. The bright yellow Oxalis refused to conform so I really needed more. Typical I could only find a few flowers when normally we have lots.

Yes, adding the hibiscus was definitely the way to go, linking with the red of the bottlebrush and somehow pulling the rest of your motley collection together. Thanks for braving the elements!
