Shopping in Intermarche this week we (actually the OH) noticed this Bacalhau Christmas tree. What a creative way to display and promote Bacalhau! This certainly made me smile.

Bacalhau anyone?
It’s as stiff as a board, smells disgusting and looks about as appetizing as the prospect of munching on chipboard. In fact, it’s so hard it has to be cut into pieces using a band saw when you buy it! Bacalhau, also has to be soaked for about 3-4 days, (changing the water twice a day) to remove the salt, before it can be cooked. So much effort so what is the reward? Piglet is on a mission to discover the answer…
Bacalhau com Natas (Cod in Cream Sauce)
This recipe is delicious!
Why not read more #weeklysmiles over at Trent’s Blog.
Wow, I have not seen that since i was a kid. It is probably still available here, but only in ethnic stores.

I have never heard of Bacalhau. I guess every place needs its own favorite food. Odd tree, though. A Fishmas Tree? Great smile 🙂

The wife has already got this years’ supply in and will soon be preparing it.
Not something I partake of any more, being vegetarian for several years now.
But one sign that things are changing – the fish at the Portuguese shop my wife always buys from – The Mediterranean – are smaller than we have ever seen them.
Not a good sign.

I get a bit emotional when it comes to animals and what finds its way to the dinner plate I’m afraid. And it was for this reason I went vegetarian.
