One Size Does Not Fit All

After my experience in a Portuguese hospital this week for an operation on my meniscus, I am back on my crusade to lose weight.

Before I was wheeled down to the operating theatre I was given a gown and a pair of paper modesty pants (knickers). Now, before I continue this story, I’m not huge just round(ish). As I struggled into the pants, I had a fit of nervous giggles borne from frustration and embarrassment as the nurse watched but could offer no solution to my predicament .

The holes of the legs were barely large enough to accommodate my thighs and as I tried to hitch them up further the waist elastic barely stretched over my nether region. I was mortified.

Don’t you have anything larger – mais grande?” I asked hopefully.
No, just one-size to fit all,” replied the nurse then shrugged apologetically.

Oh well, the poor surgeon will get an eyeful, I thought as I was pushed along the hospital corridors to theatre. How ridiculous that the one-size-fit-all was no larger than about a size 14-16.

When I eventually came round after the operation and back in the privacy of my own room, as they were cutting in, I asked the nurse to cut them off and I’d go commando. She willingly agreed and we laughed at their skimpy proportions.

I’ve already lost 5kg (nearly 11ib) and I’d like to lose another 10 kg. As I can’t exercise for some time, and I love my food, it’s going to be an uphill struggle. Ho hum, I will have plenty of time to study fat-free/low calorie recipes as I can’t even wander round my garden at the moment.

Onwards!

      1. You will get there…When I have been in a losing weight mode….I have found it very important never to feel hungry. In other words to make sure that I have lots of the right stuff….veggies, fruit, etc. and that I eat little and often. Again, remember it takes 28 days to form a new habit……janet

  2. Ah, poor dear! That had to be embarrassing! Actually, I am envious that you were given modesty knickers. Here in the States, it has always been “commando”.

  3. Have you seen the Pinch of Nom website? They have the most wonderful healthy recipes on there. I use it for inspiration alongside going to Slimming World for the group support and find that works for me. Good luck.

    1. I lost almost 3 stone with SW two years ago and although a stone has gone back on, I have maintained my current weight for over a year. I had the right idea, but got my ratios wrong, so SW definitely helped with that. It’s hard work trying to lose it again, but I’m trying!
