City Living in Lisbon

This week’s theme for Jakes photo challenge is City

Living in a city I’m sure has many advantages, but I’ve always pondered on the problem as to where city-dwellers hang their wet washing to dry in these tiny trendy city apartments.

Now I know!

How do people dry their washing in the city?

Every time I visit a big city claustrophobia washes over me, absorbs my consciousness and makes me feel anxious and dizzy. There are just too many people, too many cars, too much pollution and too much noise! I’m a beach and country person through and through as the hypnotic sounds of the sea and tranquility of the countryside brings a certain peace within.

I could NEVER live in a city.

The only plus side of city living I can think of is that I would not have to contend with the bug problem – just masses of people!

Could you live in a city?

Weekly Photo Challenge: Journey – Trams in Lisbon

Trams in Lisbon

Trams in Lisbon

The electric tram network (Rede de eléctricos de Lisboa) is an easy way to see historic Lisbon. Tram No. 28 is the most famous as the journey takes you through the steep winding streets of the old town.

We were advised by a seasoned tourist to catch a tram at the bottom of the hill up to the castle and then walk down through the old quarter. Easier on the legs – they were right!

I was so absorbed looking out of the window at the old buildings, imagining life years ago before this area became “trendy” with tourists I failed to notice my hubby, daughter and son-in-law had got off the tram until it had pulled away. Luckily, I persuaded the driver to stop before the next stop to let me off. The idea of getting separated and ultimately lost in Lisbon was not a happy one.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Entrance

This week’s WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge is “Entrance”

A short walk from the chic designer shops are the historic “back” streets of Lisbon. I personally find wandering round observing the architecture and appreciating everyday life far more interesting than looking at material things I can neither afford, or if I could would even want.
Is it just me or is paying thousands or even hundreds of dollars, pounds or euros for an item of clothing or trinket a pointless waste of money?

Anyway I digress, back to the photo!

I was initially attracted to the courtyard entrance by the wonderful cooking aromas. Like a fly on the wall I paused for a few moments to discreetly observe the woman prepare and cook her meal outside. Hmmm, I wonder what was on the menu? Well, whatever she was cooking, it smelt delicious!

I love Al Fresco dining do you?
